What's missing
Where the app can't follow a rule to the letter yet, its notes say so, and say how to allow for it when you enter your hours. From this page's agreements:
- Chicago and northwest Indiana (zone 1). Illinois prints no effective date; the app starts each year on June 1, the federal determination's date. The fire stop technician's $44.02 is the June 2024 rate, the newest published, so it's used for every week (the real rate is probably higher). The 2025 hazardous material foreman rate isn't published, so before June 1 2026 the app pays that class the hazardous material handler rate. In Indiana (Lake, Newton, Porter) the federal determination still shows $56.02, the June 2025 Chicago rate; the app pays the Chicago rates there too, so check your stub. Apprentices: a 5-year program whose percentages aren't published: use Enter my own rate.
- Chicago and northwest Indiana (zone 1). Illinois moves only a Sunday holiday, so a Saturday one stays on the Saturday.
- Chicago and northwest Indiana (zone 1). Local 17's dues and other deductions aren't published. The app takes 8% of gross wages as dues, the highest working-dues rate any insulators' local publishes (Local 40's work assessment), so the take-home shown is on the low side: type your local's % on the Settings tab. Illinois lists vacation at $0.00, so no vacation fund is taken.
- Peoria area (zone 2). Illinois prints no effective date; the app uses these rates from June 1 2026, Local 17's step date in the federal determination, and for earlier weeks too (for an earlier week, use Enter my own rate). Apprentices: a 5-year program whose percentages aren't published.
- Peoria area (zone 2). The overtime and holiday rules here are the Cook County legend's; Peoria's weren't checked.
- Peoria area (zone 2). Illinois moves only a Sunday holiday, so a Saturday one stays on the Saturday.
- Peoria area (zone 2).
Enter your own hours in the Insulator app: it applies these rates, the overtime and holiday rules, dues and tax, and keeps a year of paychecks. Free for a month.
