What's missing
Where the app can't follow a rule to the letter yet, its notes say so, and say how to allow for it when you enter your hours. From this page's agreements:
- So the overtime, holiday and shift rules below aren't published, and the app uses the lower of the usual insulators' rules; check them against your stub.
- Only the 2025 journeyman rate is published, so the app works out the 2025 foreman, general foreman and apprentice rates with the 2026 sheet's rules (foreman $57.30, apprentices $25.11 to $44.64). The 4th-year page prints $43.25; the app uses the $43.24 of page 2 (75% of $57.65). The package goes up $5.00 on July 1 2027 ($5.25 in 2028, $5.50 in 2029) and the split isn't published yet, so the app keeps the 2026 rates: then type your new rate under Enter my own rate.
- The full holiday list isn't published, so the app marks only New Year's Day and Christmas, moved to the Friday before when they fall on a Saturday and the Monday after on a Sunday, and pays them at double time when worked. Tick Holiday on any other day your job keeps as one.
- The general foremen's dues aren't printed, so the app works them out the same way, 5.5% of their wage plus the journeyman's $43.35 of fringes ($5.87, $6.03, $6.19, $6.35). The apprentices' fund amounts are worked out at their percentage, rounded to the cent. Weeks before July 1 2026 are taken at the 2026 amounts (5.5% of the 2025 package, $96.60, was $5.31 for a journeyman).
- The half hour isn't added, and as the sheet doesn't say how the $15 is taxed, the app adds it to taxable pay (a flat daily amount is normally taxable wages under IRS rules), with no dues on it.
Enter your own hours in the Insulator app: it applies these rates, the overtime and holiday rules, dues and tax, and keeps a year of paychecks. Free for a month.
