Terms of use

Last updated October 20, 2026.

These terms cover the Union Toolbox paycheck apps, these sites and the job-call board. Using them or buying a license means you agree to them. Union Toolbox is made by one union tradesperson in Alberta, Canada, and isn't run by, affiliated with or endorsed by any union. Card payments go through Stripe and show as TradesPay.

What the apps are

The apps estimate your paycheck from public union agreements and the year's tax and deduction rules. They're estimates, not payroll, tax or legal advice. A rate can change, a rule can be read wrong, and your job can have its own deal. Always check your real pay stub, and ask your hall or steward when something doesn't match.

The free month

Each app is free for its first month, counted from the day you first open it on your phone. You don't need a card or an email. People who used an app before it started charging get a free year from then. After that, you need a license to keep using the app.

Your license

Refunds

Changed your mind? Email support@uniontoolbox.ca within 14 days of buying and we'll refund the full amount, no questions asked. Tell us the email you paid with, or your key. The money goes back to your card, and that key stops working. After 14 days, there are no refunds for the rest of the year. This doesn't take away any refund right the law where you live gives you.

Privacy and agreements you send

Your hours stay on your phone. The privacy policy says what little the apps send us, how long we keep agreement files you send, and how to have it all deleted. Only send an agreement you're allowed to share, like one your union posts or gives its members. We use the files only to add it to the apps, and can't promise when, or if, that happens.

Fair use

Use the apps for your own work and pay. Don't copy or resell them, pass them off as your own, get around the license, or try to break or overload them. The apps and their code belong to Union Toolbox. The agreements belong to the people who wrote them.

No promises

The apps come "as is." We work hard to get every rate and rule right, but we don't promise the apps are free of mistakes, always working, or right for your situation. We don't control the union halls' pages we link to.

The most we owe

If something goes wrong, the most we owe you, for all claims together, is what you paid us in the 12 months before it happened. We aren't responsible for indirect losses, like short pay you didn't catch, a tax bill, or a log lost with your phone (use the app's Backup now and then). Where the law doesn't allow this limit, it applies only as far as the law allows.

Changes

We can change, add or remove features, rates and apps at any time, and we can change these terms. The date at the top shows the last change, and big changes also go in the apps' What's new box. Keep using the apps after a change and the new terms apply. A change never takes back a refund you already asked for.

The law

The laws of the Province of Alberta, Canada, govern these terms. Nothing here takes away rights you have under your state's consumer protection laws.
